Get to Know Your Tutor

First, check out the above PowerPoint from online tutor Rebecca Hale. Not only does Rebecca have years of experience working as a Writing Center tutor through Cincinnati State Community and Technical College and The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences, but she also works as for numerous colleges in the area as an instructor for English as a Second Language learners. Not only has Rebecca taught for many different colleges, but she has also taught in many different countries. As she notes in her teaching portfolio:

I received my Masters of Education in TESOL from the University of Cincinnati, and hold certificates in Adult/International ESL from the University of Cincinnati and in the Communicative Approach to TEFL from Language Link in St. Petersburg, Russia. I have been fortunate enough to travel to 15 countries outside of the U.S. thus far, and run a Russian Language Conversation Group at the University of Cincinnati. After teaching in and traveling to Russia, India, Belgium and Israel in 2013, I am happy to once again be immersed the diversity of the many communities here in Cincinnati, while engaging in continuing professional development with an eye for future overseas teaching opportunities.

Rebecca provides online writing support for all students at The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences. She does this by working as our online consultant, which means that she handles all of our online appointments. But how do you schedule an online appointment, you may ask. Well, it’s easy!

Scheduling an Appointment

To schedule an online appointment with the Writing Center, please navigate to our scheduler! You can do this by visiting the Schedule an Appointment page on the blog, by following the link in the Writing Center area in Blackboard, or by visiting this URL: tccnhstutor.checkappointments.com. You will need to make an account by registering with your name and email address, and then you can select from a variety of tutoring options, including Nursing, Biology, Math, and Writing! To schedule an online appointment, select “Writing Center” and then “Online”. You can then select a day and time that works best for you, but remember, the Writing Center has a 24-48 turnaround time for online appointments, so make sure to schedule your appointment in advance of the deadline.

Completing Your Appointment

After scheduling an appointment, you should receive an email with instructions from the Writing Center. This email lets you know where to send your assignment (by email to rebecca.hale@thechristcollege.edu), as well as what other information to include. By letting your tutor know what your assignment is, what class it is for, and what you would like help with, you can ensure that you receive the most out of your online appointment. If you do not hear from the Writing Center in advance of your appointment, please email us at rebecca.hale@thechristcollege.edu and alyssa.ryan@thechristcollege.edu.

Once Rebecca has received your assignment, the prompt, and the other necessary information, she will review the document and return it with feedback within 24-48 hours. Please do remember that online appointments are offered Monday-Friday from 9AM-5PM. Our online tutor does not work over the weekends, during school breaks, or on holidays, so do keep in mind that an assignment submitted at 5PM on Friday may not be returned until Monday morning. And remember – if you do not have time to wait for your assignment to be returned, then you may want to consider scheduling a face-to-face appointment!
